Week Highlights 21/7: WHERE’S MY CAAAAAAAAKE???!

Creepshowpoitgrabe

This is a really great week for film screenings across the UK, which makes it a really bad week to try and choose just five. I’ve given it a go, based on my personal taste, but its probably better to just check out the full listings.

5 interesting film events taking place this week:

1. HERCULES IN NEW YORKThur 24th July @ REDGRAVE THEATRE, BRISTOL
The Bristol Bad Film Club have no shame in screening this early Schwarzenegger film as an alternative take on the greek myth role currently being played by The Rock.

2. KINO KLUBB PRESENTS: CREEPSHOWFri 25th July @ Broadway Cinema, NOTTINGHAM
A free screening of one of my absolute favourite films – a compendium of horror both ridiculous and and genuiinely terrifying. Great gore, great script. A real treasure. “Where’s my caaaaaaaaake?!?!???”

3. KENDAL MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL: ON THE EDGE Sat 26th July / Sun 27th July @ Sticklebarn Tavern, AMBLESIDE
A two-day summer event with workshops and speakers and a massive shorts  programme in glorius Cumbria. Full programme here.

4. NIGHTMARE MAKERSun 27 July @ The Electric Cinema, Birmingham
Viva VHS and Shock & Gore present a special VHS screening of this eccentric slasher. Authentic video nasty.

5. PATRICK SWAYZE DOUBLE BILLSun 27th July @ Gorilla, Manchester
RAD screenings (Retro and Dangerous cousins of Grimmfest) present their first ever event, a Patrick Swayze double bill of Road House and Point Break. I chose this because my grandma loved Roadhouse. Rest in piece nan.
