Cemetery of Splendour | Dir. Apichatpong Weerasethakul | 122mins | Thailand | 2016
A film that is like a poem. Both mysterious and yet specific.
Thai soldiers lie unable to awake from a mysterious sleeping condition. Beneath the hospital lies another realm. Goddesses explain that the improvised hospital is buried on an ancient cemetery for kings and soldiers who continue to battle, drawing down the energy of sleeping soldiers as they do so. Weerasethakul evokes the magically fluid nature of time and space, conveying a multiplicity of planes of existence.
