As part of Scalarama 2014, join us in the new performing arts space Victoria Works, Neepsend for a night of local reflection and faraway dreaming.
The main feature will be preceded by a rarely screened local short from 1942, not to be missed.
The acclaimed ‘docu-fantasia’ My Winnipeg follows the memories, places, and dreamwalking of Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin as he traces his reluctant obsession with his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Both an optimistic, self-directed therapy session to forever release Guy from its sleepy pull and a playful filmic journey through the ghostly weirdness of the snowy city, My Winnipeg is a funny and bittersweet inspiration to leave you reflecting on your own hometown’s present, future and its vanished memories of the past.
We hope to make the evening an autumnal social event with a food van in the courtyard of Victoria Works, a bar, music and you can expect some extra (secret) entertainment. So stick around for the night!
Victoria Works is just a minute or two past the Riverside pub, if walking, and just behind the number 53 bus route.
