For our next event Screened will be exploring the haunted imagination of Mexican Filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro.

Waving between the real and mythical world, Pan’s Labyrinth is a dark fantasy-drama set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. The story follows the strange and mysteries journey of Ofelia, A young girl who’s stepfather Captain Vidal, is leading the assault on the last reaming Republicans who are holding out in the woods.

Afraid and seeking an escape, Ofelia stumbles on a secret Labyrinth inhabited by a magnificent and awe-inspiring faun, who hails Ofelia as a Princess, but tells her she must carry out terrifying tasks to enter into her destiny; this she does, without telling the grown-ups of this strange another world beneath their feet.

“I wanted to represent political power within the creatures,” del Toro
