The Luxbry celebrates the 160th birthday of William Friese-Greene, photographer and experimental film maker, with a screening of the Boulting brothers’ romanticised biopic of the obsessive inventor. The film, featuring a star-studded cast, was made for the 1951 Festival of Britain based on the biography by Ray Allister, and presents Friese-Greene (Robert Donat) on his quest to create moving pictures. This screening takes place in Middle Street, where Friese-Greene had his workshop for a brief period during his years living and working in Brighton as a photographer and inventor.
