Organised by: The Overlook Screening Room

The Overlook Screening Room are happy to announce that our selection for September is CITIZEN RUTH, screening on September 3rd at The Water Poet.

The feature film debut of Academy-Award nominated writer/director Alexander Payne (Nebraska, The Descendants, Election), CITIZEN RUTH is an outrageous satire of American society and politics – maybe even more relevant now than it was in 1996.

Laura Dern (Wild, Jurassic Park, Blue Velvet) plays Ruth Stoops, a self-destructive young woman who finds herself at the centre of the abortion debate and an ensuing media frenzy. The film mercilessly satirises the fanaticism on both sides, and is never afraid to make its characters unsympathetic (to put it mildly!) Funny and remarkably gutsy, CITIZEN RUTH is a complete one-of-a-kind film that must be seen to be believed.
