Better than expected but not good
I think in essence this could have been a very good film . One big problem which really ruined the whole thing was the very poor sound and a soundtrack that was so cheap lacklustre and corny , for me spoilt the whole film . One small plus was Derrick Jacobi who was a joy along with his accent

4.8 IMDB Rating is just Ridiculous!
There’s no doubt Simon West’s Stratton is a “B” movie at best, but it’s a pretty entertaining one, particularly if you’re an action movie enthusiast. I’m astounded at its below 5 rating. This is a decent, if very derivative action flick, with a solid cast and at 95 minutes long, certainly doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Apparently producers were hopeful of using Stratton as the basis for an ongoing franchise of movies featuring the title character created by Duncan Falconer, who also contributed to this movie’s screenplay. But I’d suggest if they were serious about doing that, they would have stumped up for a bigger budget and expanded on some sort of origin story for Stratton, played competently, if not memorably by Dominic Cooper.

In fact sketchy characterisations are the film’s biggest weakness, which is strange, seeing Falconer is a co – screenwriter. No one gets much of a back story and much as I liked seeing Derek Jacobi’s brief scenes, they don’t really add much at all to the overall story of good guys from the British Special Boat Service, trying to stop a terrorist cell’s plot to attack London with a bio – weapon.

The many action scenes are handled well for a low to medium budget film. And can I say here that I quite liked Connie Nielsen’s unusual take on a traditional role of an “M” type character, running the anti – terrorist network. Not quite the train wreck of a performance, that many are claiming, though like I said, it is different.

Stratton will not live in your memory, but I certainly wasn’t bored watching it. There are far worse films with a much higher rating than this one.
