Lacked the Zest of the Television Series
This story begins with a young Indian boy by the name of “Tonto” (Patrick Montoya) being hunted down by a murderous gang of vigilantes for no other reason than the color of his skin. Fortunately, he is saved by another young boy named “John Reid” (Marc Gilpin) who guides him to a nice hiding spot nearby. Not long afterward, however, John returns to his home to find his mother brutally murdered by that same group of vigilantes and his home burned to the ground. So with no other options left Tonto takes John to his village where he is raised for a short period of time. Eventually, he returns to what is left of his family and after obtaining a law degree “John Reid” (now played by Klinton Spilsbury) returns to place where he grew up. It’s only after reuniting with his good friend “Tonto” (now played by Michael Horse) that he dons a mask and makes it his mission to bring justice to that area as the character of the Lone Ranger. Now rather than reveal any more, I will just say that I used to watch the old black-and-white television series of the Lone Ranger (starring Clayton Moore) when I was a child and this movie just didn’t have the same zest as the original show. Admittedly, I am not the innocent, wide-eyed boy I was back then, but even so there was a certain mystery to the Lone Ranger that was missing in this film. Likewise, the plot for this film was rather shallow as well. In any case, while this movie might be okay to watch with young children, it didn’t really impress me all that much and for that reason I have rated it accordingly. Slightly below average.
